Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act – How It Prevents Indiscriminate Killing Of Animals

To prevent mass killing of migratory birds (ducks and geese, for example) and enable conservation of wildlife, the government passed a special act in 1934–the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act. According to the law, any hunter who is interested in migratory birds has to buy this stamp and carry it with him/her at all times. No one needs protest against this rule because it is meant for a good cause. After all, if there was no wildlife, what would anyone hunt?

Before going into more details, readers have to be cautioned that anyone trying to make a counterfeit copy of the stamp will land in prison! It is actually a reprehensible thing to do considering that the price placed on the stamp is very nominal. Also, people should realize what the money is being used for. Where genuine hunters are concerned, they feel the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act has opened up a path to return to the environment and wildlife what one takes from it.

According to the laws set by the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act, a new stamp has to be bought every year; the old one will not run for years. The price is below ten dollars and it is charged annually. So the sports hunter is actually getting much more than what he/she has paid for! Whenever and wherever he/she hunts throughout the year, the stamp is to be a part of his/her luggage.

The entire proceeds from the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act are kept for the objective of conserving wildlife. Not a single pie is used for any other purpose. As a matter of fact, the government itself has decided that it cannot utilize the amount collected for its own purposes! Luckily, hunters cooperate with this idea because they have a great love of the outdoors and for wildlife despite hunting down animals. The Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act does not apply to hunting of other animals like bears or deer, of course–it is ony related to migratory birds as the name itself suggests!

If the sports hunter is not sure of which birds can be classified as migratory, the Internet is there to provide the required information. The agency responsible for wildlife in each state can also help out in this regard since they possess lists of migratory birds. Even if the hunter is not certain whether he/she will go after those birds anyway, it would be wise to purchase the stamp and keep it. What if he/she changes his/her mind later?

Thus, the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act has brought hunters and government together to perform a great service–to conserve wildlife as much as possible in the United States.
